The island of Tiree has long been established as one of the world’s premier windsurfing destinations. It is only natural that it has gained popularity as a kitesurfing spot too. The island is ideal for everyone from beginner to expert providing great sailing conditions regardless of wind direction. With beaches all around the island providing a variety of conditions depending on wind direction and an inland loch guaranteeing flat water regardless, virtually all of the boxes have been ticked.
In October each year the Tiree Wave Classic world cup event blows up on an Atlantic swell generated by storm force winds that would have most of us battening the hatches and hunkering down by the fire with a wee dram of malt. On Tiree however, things are slightly different. An international group of neoprene clad athletes take to the water in what has become an annual spectacle drawing crowds from afar.
