Zermatt, Walking & Hiking

Zermatt is a magical location for hikers with its outstanding peaks, massive glaciers, expansive forests, colourful alpine meadows, glistening mountain lakes, rumbling rivers and bubbling brooks. Over 400 kilometers of marked walking paths crisscross this landscape leading hikers in all directions. Some find their way to villages in neighbouring valleys while others steal one away to secret locations high in the mountains or deep in the woods.

The south western skyline is dominated the majestic Matterhorn that sits like a battered witches hat above the resort reaching an altitude of 4478 metres. But piercing the heavens at the even higher height of 4634 metres is the mighty Monte Rosa Massif that lies southeast of Zermatt overlooking the popular Italian resorts of Alagna, Gressoney and Champoluc. Walkers are simply spoiled for choice in this region with alpinists and amblers alike able to enjoy tremendous views regardless of their altitudinal achievements.
