Tomintoul, Walking & Hiking

Tomintoul is well situated for exploring the north western Cairngorms. Several Munro’s are accessible from Glen Avon including Ben Avon, the mighty Ben MacDui and Cairngorm itself. However, approaching from this end on foot is a lengthy business and in most cases would require an overnight stay. These peaks are better reached on foot from either Braemar or Glen More. An alternative would be to access as far as possible on bike – reducing the overall walking time required considerably. It’s always much more fun trundling down long mountain tracks on two wheels anyway.

A less taxing stroll is the circular route from Bridge of Avon via Glen Brown or the Glenmullie forest offers gentle walking suitable for the family. And of course there is the Speyside Way and its various offshoots including the pleasant hill walk from Tomnavoulin to Carn Daimh. This is just a small selection of what the area has to offer.
