Tignes, Walking & Hiking

Ramblers, walkers, hikers and mountaineers are invited to explore the protected expanses of the Vanoise National Park into which the mountains above Tignes fall. With its varied scenery, rare and protected animals and vast expanses of relatively remote wilderness the park is a haven for true connoisseurs of the great outdoors. There is in excess of 500 kilometers of signed footpaths throughout the park but more importantly there are even more unsigned routes where it’s possible to stroll for hours without meeting another soul.

Visitors to and the creatures that inhabit the Vanoise National Park benefit from the fact that together with the Grand Paradiso National Park over the border in Italy with which it connects, there is a continuous protected wilderness covering a staggering 55,000 hectares over which to roam. Armed with a tent, maybe a fishing rod and some rations a man could disappear into the depths of this wilderness and bar a single road crossing not come into contact with civilization for weeks.
