La Rosiere, Walking & Hik...

From La Rosiere walkers can strike out for the high ridges that shoulder Mont Valaisan and separate France from Italy. With one foot in each country it is possible to navigate from summit to summit following the ridgeline and international frontier for mile after mile. This is a tremendous landscape with stunning scenery that incorporates everything from pointy peaks and sharp arêtes to glacial lakes and pine forests.

For those that like a less complicated life there are 85 km of way marked trails to follow while the more adventurous will find a vast area over which to roam. The local tourist office provides maps and information relating to the marked routes while self navigators may require the French IGN (Institut Geographique National) 3532ET and IGN 3531ET and the Italian IGC (Istituto Geofraco Centrale) 107 and IGC 102 maps. Other maps available from IGN that could prove useful are the trans-border series’ No 15 Tarentaise/Valgrisenche and No 16 Petit St Bernard/Mont Blanc.
