La Plagne, Walking & Hiking

With over 10,000 hectares of open mountainside, forest tracks, orchards and glaciers to explore the discerning walker will find they are spoiled for choice in La Plagne. Walkers are invited to follow any of the many signposted paths that lead through this stunning landscape and discover the huge variety of flora and fauna that this region has to offer.

On any one outing walkers may encounter the snow capped peak of Bellecote, the exposed ridges shouldering Becqui Rouge, a tricky scramble below Roche de Mio, the pleasure of a picnic by the serene Lac des Blanchets or maybe even a crisp cold beer in the humble ambience of one of the many welcoming mountain restaurants dotted around and of course the odd marmot, perhaps a chamois or two and very possibly a golden eagle.

The local tourist office provides a map with marked trails and route ideas for a small fee. Of course anyone armed with an IGN (Institut Geographique National) map which is the French OS (Ordnance Survey) equivalent will be able to plan their own routes. The 3532ET and 3532OT both provide some coverage of the immediate area around La Plagne.
