Breuil Cervinia, Walking &...

As one would imagine, Cervinia is an ideal location for hikers what with its backdrop that features the mighty Monte Rosa and majestic Matterhorn or Il Cervino as it’s known locally – two of Western Europe’s most famous 4000 plus metre peaks. With gentle tracks winding their way through alpine pastures and woodland to more strenuous routes passing over the wilder terrain of high glaciated mountain passes this resort has a lot to offer. Precipitous peaks, flowing glaciers, multi-coloured meadows dark green woodland and the occasional glistening lake are just some of the features of this stunning landscape.

The walking options really are extensive including everything from multi-day long-distance cross border tours to short sharp shimmies up a mountain path. The Haute Route, as popular amongst ski tourers in winter as it is hikers in summer begins in Chamonix, France and terminates in Zermatt just over the border in Switzerland with which Cervinia shares the lift system. Keeping things local treks include the Tours of Il Cervino and Monte Rosa both of which prove to be real hits amongst hikers.
