Aviemore, Walking & Hiking

Between the Cairngorm Mountains and the Spey valley hikers of every level will find challenges aplenty here. From gentle woodland walks ideal for all the family to long distance routes over high mountains that will test even the fittest, this area is offering it all. With over eighteen Munro’s (Scottish mountains over 3000ft) and almost as many Corbett’s (Scottish mountains between 2500ft and 3000ft) on its doorstep Aviemore is the hill walker’s paradise.

Aviemore certainly has mountains galore of high level hiking trails but low down in the forests and river valleys walkers will find an equally extensive range of walking itineraries. Between the Rothiemurchus and Abernethy Forests and along the length of the River Spey there are hundreds of kilometres of hiking paths. It’s really possible to lose yourself in this place. Stroll deep into the forest and enjoy a spot of lunch by a shimmering loch or take a cooling dip in one of the many mountain streams deep pools.

You can sit and listen to the bird song while watching deer graze a short distance away - if you're quiet.
