Verbier, Skiing & Snowboa...

Verbier is famous throughout the world for its challenging slopes and legendary après ski and rightly so. Annually the “Verbier Ride” an IFSA Freeskiing World Tour event and the “O’neil Xtreme Freeride” event come to town. However, this does not mean that this area is the preserve of cliff jumping Lemmings. No, in fact the majority of skiing throughout the area is graded intermediate with a substantial portion also graded easy.

The ski area here is expansive with over 400 kilometers of marked runs not to mention the vast sectors of easily accessible off-piste that have made Verbier famous. Also known as the 4 Valleys the ski area takes in the villages of Nendaz, Veysonnaz and Thyon plus a couple of smaller hamlets along the way. Whatever your level the Verbier ski and snowboard area should have something suitable for you.

Beginner

ski rating

For beginners there is a designated area with two drag lifts at the edge of the village. With good quality instruction beginners will soon be extending their horizons and venturing farther a field. There is some nice long confidence building blue runs above the village and toward La Tzoumaz.

Intermediate

ski rating

Verbier and the 4 valleys is a true intermediates paradise with masses of terrain being graded intermediate. However the passage from the Verbier/Mont Fort sector to the Printze sector is via a “ski route” essentially a marked off-piste track. Many strong intermediate riders would manage this but it is advisable to seek the advice of either an instructor or guide before attempting this. If taking on this run is not advised then you can always take the lift down or alternatively use the local bus service to take you to the other base stations.

Advanced

ski rating

Ho o Oh! There’s challenging and then there’s terrifying. Verbier has it all from seriously tough black pistes with bumps the size of houses to easily accessible fields of powder as steep as they get to sheer 80 foot drops and then some. How good is your crash helmet?

Well there is a park, but it’s for girls.
