Valmorel, Skiing & Snowbo...

Valmorel is truly a family friendly resort when it comes to skiing and snowboarding. There’s an excellent nursery area and a highly recommended ski school for the little ones; a cross track and terrain park with half-pipe for the teenagers; plenty of easy blues and reds for a hung-over dad and several testing black runs plus unlimited off-piste for that high octane chick called mum. Valmorel does really offer a bit of everything to everyone but on balance is probably most suited to beginners and intermediates. The ski and snowboard area is extensive covering 152 kilometers of marked piste and takes in several settlements including Longchamp and St Francois over the hill in the Maurienne valley.

Beginner

ski rating

Valmorel comes up trumps for beginners. It is without a doubt worthy of its five star grading. There are stacks of very easy green runs and many of these are in protected zones so beginners can learn un-harassed by other passing skiers and snowboarders. Progression is equally as easy with numerous gentle blues on which to consolidate and build up that all important confidence.

Intermediate

ski rating

Intermediates will relish the numerous blue and red runs that snake throughout this region. Most should be able to navigate the ski and snowboard area without ever having to make any daunting choices. At the top of most lifts you are presented with more than one option and that usually includes a blue alternative.

Advanced

ski rating

Just under a third of the slopes here are graded difficult but that includes both red and black pistes. The resort also boasts some mind-blowing couloirs and oodles of off-piste opportunities. Back country aficionados could be very happy here.
