Obergurgl, Skiing & Snowb...

Most of the riding in the Oetz valley is above the tree line with the exception of a couple of off-piste routes that take you right down through the trees. The area is reputed to be suitable for riders of all abilities but more specifically for beginners and intermediate cruisers. And it’s important to point out that due to its’ high altitude Obergurgl is a snow sure resort which is worth considering if you have to book way in advance. With lifts accessed from within the village Obergurgl also scores highly on skiing convenience.

Beginner

ski rating

For beginners there is an area set aside at the edge of the village where most lessons begin. Moving onwards and upwards you will graduate to the snowfields of Alpe di Siusi with longer blue runs where you can start to really build up your confidence. With the right encouragement from an attentive instructor it is possible to be cruising down red runs within a week.

Intermediate

ski rating

Intermediates can range all over this ski area enjoying the variety of terrain and spectacular scenery on offer. With over thirty blue and red graded runs of reasonable length, intermediates should find enough to keep them amused for several days.

Advanced

ski rating

For better riders there are one or two memorable runs here but the on-piste challenges are probably not what you’d come here for. Obergurgl has plenty of off-piste on offer plus some of the very best ski touring terrain in this neck of the woods. However, you need to be aware that this area is heavily glaciated with glaciers numbering 23 at the last count. So if you are the more adventurous type and plan a bit of touring then letting one of the local guides lead the way makes a whole lot of sense.
