Nendaz, Skiing & Snowboar...

Being part of Switzerland’s 4-Valleys ski and snowboard domain certainly has its advantages. The riding is most suited to strong intermediates and above and is extensive too with over 410 kilometers of marked piste and some of Europe’s most exciting off-piste easily tapped from the top of many a lift. Of course with that amount of terrain there is plenty of room for beginners too although the options are somewhat limited.

Beginner

ski rating

Beginners have four local ski schools to choose from before venturing onto the mountain to take their first slides on snow. Then there’s a nice little nursery area just a lift ride away a short distance above the resort on which to get started. And following that beginners can progress onto the longer blue runs accessed from the top of the first lift and all being well even eventually onto the couple of red pistes above the village.

Intermediate

ski rating

Nendaz is most suited to strong, confident intermediates who are not scared of taking on the odd black run or even off-piste itinerary (marked off-piste route). The few slopes immediately above the village being a mix of mainly blue and red are certainly within most intermediates capabilities. However, if intermediates wish to venture beyond the slopes of Nendaz which undoubtedly they will then they should be aware that the options for returning to the valley are first via an off-piste itinerary that then links into a black piste. Of course there is always the option of riding the cable car and chairlift to return but that would be sacrilege.

Ho o Oh! There’s challenging and then there’s blooming frightening. The 4 valleys has it all from seriously tough black pistes with bumps the size of houses to easily accessible fields of powder as steep as they get to sheer 80 foot drops and then some. How good is your crash helmet?
