Meribel, Skiing & Snowboa...

Meribel is the place to stay if you want to access all areas of Les Trois Vallees. Being in the middle valley of three means the first run of the day can be had in any of the valleys. I should point out that the skiing technically extends over four valleys if you include the single lift that links in from the Maurienne valley accessed from Val Thorens.

Les Trois Vallees’ claims to be the biggest ski area in the world with over 600 kilometers of linked piste. However, it has competition from the Dolomiti Superski region in Italy which claims to have 1180 kilometers of linked piste. If anyone really cares who’s got the “biggest” then we might open that debate to all who are interested on this website at a later date.

Beginner

ski rating

With plenty of wide open gently sloping green runs in and around the resort the most timid of beginners will pick up their chosen sport relatively quickly. Progression is made easy here too with an abundance of confidence building long gentle blue runs within the Meribel valley itself.

Intermediate

ski rating

Intermediates are absolutely spoiled for choice. You can rip it up on the numerous long blue runs and some of the easier reds. With access to all areas of Les Trois Vallees (Three Valleys) you should never be bored and in reality could almost avoid skiing the same run twice. Great for an early morning warm up run is the long blue from Cherferie leading down to Saint-Martin de Belleville which is usually empty first thing. Beware of some of the reds here as you may find that they are more testing than you expected.

Advanced

ski rating

Les Trois Vallees offers a considerable quantity of black runs, about 28 in total. It also boasts three famous couloirs although there are more couloirs here than you can shake a stick at. And there is plenty of easily accessible off-piste for those who want it plus some nice tree skiing above Courchevel 1350 and La Tania. The jury returned a unanimous verdict of “excellent”.

Freestyle, Skier and BoarderCross

ski rating

Les Trois Vallees has oodles for discerning rodeo roller types with plenty of big air to be had in the park and off the piste. Yes, freestyle fiends will love Les Trois Vallees (Three Valleys) with almost more parks than piste. Not quite but there are a few, two of the best being the Moon and Plattieres parks in the Meribel valley. Pipes, kickers, rails and skier/boardercross courses are all on offer. Fill your boots.
