Les Menuires, Skiing & Sn...

Les Menuires is a superb base for skiers looking to sample Le Trois Vallees. Its position between St Martin de Belleville and Val Thorens means all slopes within the Belleville valley are easily reached. For those wishing to head farther afield, Meribel and the rest of Les Trois Vallees lay just beyond the peaks and ridges of Mont de la Chambre just east of the resort.

Les Menuires caters well for beginners offering many gentle runs to practice the basics on in and around the resort. Progressing beginners can head off up the mountain with their instructor and ski any one of the incredibly long but gentle green and blue runs back to the resort. If that doesn’t get you started then you should consider staying at home with a box of dominos.

As with all resorts of Les Trois Vallees the world is an intermediates oyster. The slopes on either side of the Belleville valley are covered with long blue and red pistes which one could blast down for a couple of days before completing all of them at least once. Be sure to venture into the Meribel and Courchevel valleys. Make sure you leave plenty of time to return if your goal is reaching the most distant slopes in Courchevel. And if you are getting bored of on-piste riding then why not hire an instructor and get some off-piste lessons. It’s not as difficult as you think.

Several blacks are within easy reach of Le Menuires. Some only being one lift ride away. Head up to Pointe De La Masse just two lifts ride away and you gain access to several off-piste itineraries some of which may be prone to avalanche due to their aspect (recommended you use a guide). The ridge between Mont de la Chambre and Roc de Fer (accessed only from Meribel) offers access to a considerable number of off-piste routes back to the Belleville valley floor. And don’t forget about the couloirs in the Meribel and Courchevel valleys.

Freestyle, Skier and BoarderCross

Freestyle fiends will love Les Trois Vallees (Three Valleys) with almost more parks than piste. Not quite but there are a few, two of the best being the Moon and Plattieres parks in the Meribel valley. Pipes, kickers, rails and skier/boardercross courses are all on offer. Fill your boots.
