Champoluc, Skiing & Snowb...

The Monte Rosa ski area is extensive. Although one might consider the 150kms of marked pistes poultry in comparison to what some French “super-resorts” offer. Believe me it’s not. The maintained runs are just the tip of the iceberg, belying the vast snowfields that provide back country buffs with pitch after pitch of off-piste pleasure. It is the proverbial freeriders paradise! As such you may find mountain guides are a more common phenomenon here than ski instructors.

Beginner

ski rating

None of the Monterosa resorts are ideally suitable for beginners. Yes, there are nursery slopes but to be honest your options as a beginner are limited. The first few steps in the learning process are easily dealt with but progression is stifled by a lack of suitable terrain on which to build that old essential, confidence. That said many individuals have learned here successfully although their hearts may have been in their mouths more often than they would in a resort with gentler terrain.

Intermediate

ski rating

Adventurous intermediates will love the Monterosa Ski domain with its long challenging red runs and the endless opportunities for popping off the side of the piste to try your feet in the deep stuff. If you have ever had aspirations of developing your skills off-piste then this is the place to do it. Take a private lesson with an instructor and realise the dream.

Advanced

ski rating

If you want deserted un-pisted black runs, endless off-piste opportunities and high altitude action then this is the place for you. What are you waiting for? Just remember to budget for the higher of a guide.

Touring

ski rating

The Monterosa region is one of the world’s premier ski and snowboard touring destinations. Its vast massif can boast several epic tours. The likes of which may traverse a 4000 metre peak before dropping down to far off settlements in foreign lands. If that sounds like too much hard work then you can always hitch a lift to the top in a helicopter before dropping down again under your own steam.
