Beginners will find suitable slopes at various locations throughout the valley. Le Tour with the greatest quantity of blue runs provides more scope for progressing beginners. An alternative for beginners with a car would be to head for Les Houches at the opposite end of the valley. Les Houches is reasonably close by and has more suitable terrain for beginners.

The best areas for intermediates are Domaine de Balme at Le Tour and the Brevent-Flegere area above the hamlet of Le Praz and Chamonix town. With a guide, confident intermediates would easily negotiate the famous Vallee Blanche. This route is officially off-piste and for the most of it you are riding on a glacier so it is imperative that you hire a guide.
