Braemar, Cycling & Mounta...

In the forests and glens around Braemar there is mile upon mile of interesting cycle track just waiting to be discovered. The same can be said of the Cairngorm Mountains that surround Braemar and offer up some of the more serious challenges in the region. Some of these are well documented in the guide books while others remain undiscovered. An intrepid mountain biker armed with a map, compass and motivation could uncover a whole new world of biking adventure. Try whetting your pallet with the near 70km circuit from Braemar via Lairig An Laiogh, Glen Avon and Glen Builg. This of course should only be attempted by the very fit.

Further down the River Dee towards Ballater and Aboyne cyclists will find many more options both on and off-road. Several routes following the river provide family friendly cycling while in the Forest of Glen Tanar a maze of forest tracks and mountain paths link up to create interesting and varied routes. Some of those trails even lead mountain bikers onto the summit of Mount Keen, one of Scotland’s Munro’s.
