Arabba, Climbing

As one would imagine the highest mountain in the Dolomites provides ‘Via Ferrata’ fans with no excuses for lying idle. That’s not to say you can’t if you want to, especially if you’ve just spent the last six hours scaling a rock face.

Climbers in this region of the Dolomites are treated to a seemingly endless number of choices. The total number of possible climbing routes in the region is probably greater than that of the local population. Okay this isn’t a fact but it does hint at the scale of it all. Marmolada is a huge mountain at over 3000 metres but so is Piz Boe in the Gruppo Del Sella just next door. It’s a massive mountain massif measuring nearly 26 kilometres round its base with 1000 metre cliffs all the way round. And it doesn’t end there. The Dolomites by their nature throw up rock face after rock face. Making this a region climbers can keep coming back to year after year with the knowledge that they still have so much to discover.
