Alpbach, Ski & Snowboard

An ideal resort for first timers and intermediates, Alpbach has a good variety of terrain and some tasty off-piste for the more adventurous. The main ski area is 5 minutes away by bus on the Wiedersbergerhorn Mountain with much of the skiing below the tree line. There is also a small nursery area on the village outskirts. The neighbouring village of Reith has a further 8 lifts and is covered by the Alpbach lift pass. Plans are currently afoot to build a link with the near by area of Wildschonau thus adding a further 63 km of piste.

GETTING HERE

Beginner Beginners are well catered for with nursery slopes in the village and at the top gondola station on Hornboden. However progressing beginners have less choice with only a few blue runs on which to build up their confidence.
Intermediate Consisting mainly of red runs almost the whole mountain is suitable for intermediates. With only 46 km of marked piste however, intermediates may want to develop their off-piste skills. The mountain offers some scenic back country trails where the terrain wouldn’t be beyond a good intermediate’s capability. It would be worth hiring an instructor or guide to get you going.
Advanced With only two marked black runs advanced riders will no doubt be itching for off-piste action. The Wiedersbergerhorn mountain offers a good variety of lift served off-piste routes and those willing to hike a bit will be richly rewarded. It is essential to use the services of a local guide but more to the point beneficial as their local knowledge will lead you to the best stashes. Money well spent.
