Zermatt, Switzerland

Situated on the Swiss Italian border Zermatt is dominated by the Matterhorn, one of the world’s most famous and inspiring peaks and probably its’ most photographed too. Zermatt is a vibrant cosmopolitan village where old world meets new. Working farm buildings stand shoulder to shoulder with tourist hotels and chic boutiques.

One modern invention not found on Zermatt’s streets is that of the internal combustion engine as the village has been designated a car free zone. And being car free means Zermatt is actually accessed by train from the village of Tasch located further down the valley and transportation around town is by electric taxi, horse drawn sleigh, Shanks’s pony or that old favourite the bicycle – better be a mountain bike up here though.

The village is positively buzzing in the evenings with a good range of eating and drinking establishments to choose from as well as boasting an impressive arsenal of indoor activity facilities suitable for entertaining young families. There’s also an excellent choice of accommodation too with everything from campsites through chalets to five star hotels.

Zermatt is a world class year round destination that’s as popular with photographers as it is paragliders. It offers a wealth of action and adventure in a truly breathtaking environment. Whether you’re pumped up or pedestrian Zermatt should not fail to impress.
