Val Thorens, France

Val Thorens is a purpose built ski resort located at the head of the Belleville valley below the Aiguille de Peclet and its glacier. Residing at an altitude of 2300 meters (7544 ft) Val Thorens is one of the highest villages in Europe.

Most properties in the village have been built in the traditional savoyard style mostly using natural materials and thus making it one of the more attractive purpose built villages in the Alps. That said it does have one or two of the seemingly obligatory concrete apartment blocks that blight the villages character to some extent.
However, the scenery is stunning and there are plenty of activities to occupy outdoor enthusiasts throughout the four seasons. For those that prefer their sport indoors especially in mid-winter there is also a sports centre offering almost everything you’d expect from a first class complex including indoor footie.

During the winter months Val Thorens produces a particularly vibrant après ski atmosphere most evenings. It boasts over 45 restaurants, plus several bars, pubs and café’s for whiling away the hours.
