La Taha de Pitres, Spain

La Taha are a collection of small whitewashed villages clinging to a hillside in the Alpujarras region of southern Spain’s Sierra Nevada Mountain range. Set amidst stunning scenery the parish of La Taha comprises the villages of; Capilerilla, Pitres, Mecina, Mecinilla, Fondales, Ferreirola and Atalbéitar. Other villages close by include Pórtugos and Busquistar. They are all linked by well trodden goat track, each never being more than 2 km from its nearest neighbour although this distance may be longer by road. Ferreirola and Busquistar for example, are less than 2 km apart as the crow flies but over 10 km away by road. These old Moorish settlements are a haven for outdoor enthusiasts who come to enjoy the exceptional hiking, mountain biking, rock climbing and other exhilarating pursuits available in the region.

The Taha villages can be described as quiet. However, some are quieter than others. All except Pitres are situated off the main drag so have no through traffic and are therefore are very peaceful all day long. Most of the Taha offer some accommodation in the form of bed and breakfast or self catering cottages and there are a couple of hotels in Mecina and a campsite in Pitres. There are a few decent restaurants between the villages too but if you wish to eat out each night at a different one then be prepared to walk some way or even drive.
