La Rosiere, France

La Rosiere 1850 is a purpose built ski resort sympathetic to the Savoyard vernacular of these parts. A cluster of wood and stone clad chalet style erections on a high terrace, it sits looking out over the Tarentaise valley with its back to the Italian border. Just over the border lies La Thuile with which La Rosiere shares the ski domain and lift system known as Espace San Bernardo. Of course today both resorts are year round concerns providing outdoor entertainment in various guises. The resorts are linked by road, the Petit St Bernard pass that does not open during the winter – this is worth noting if you are traveling using a gps system because it doesn’t know that. You wouldn’t be the first to find out the hard way!

There is a good selection of bars and restaurants for replenishing the stocks of an evening. Accommodation comes in various shapes and sizes including chalet hotels, apartments, private chalets and gites. Most are of reasonable standard.

La Rosiere is an ideal place to stay if you like to do a bit of resort hopping as it’s very close to several popular resorts including, Sainte-Foy, Villaroger, Les Arcs, Tignes, Val d’Isere and La Plagne. Most can be reached in under a half hour by car.
