Kitzbuhel, Austria

Probably the most renowned ski town in the world, Kitzbühel plays host to the Hahnenkamm world cup downhill event held on the infamous Streif piste. The race, that every downhiller wants to win more than any other, is known for being particularly petrifying and some of those brave enough to take it on have sadly not lived to tell their tale.

However, Kitzbühel is not just a ski resort with terrifying runs which by the way are not the mainstay as in fact the vast majority of pistes are actually graded intermediate. No, this attractive walled medieval town offers much more and is worthy of a visit at any time of year. Kitzbühel has a reputation for being a bit of a watering hole for the glitterati and certainly when the ski world cup comes to town it attracts famous faces from walks of life other than ski racing.

Sophisticated and stylish, Kitzbuhel really does have it going on with lively bar’s, top notch restaurant’s, night clubs and even a casino. Not to mention the chic boutiques, sporting and other relaxation facilities.

The town centre is happily traffic-free and good local bus services and the fact that Kitzbühel can be reached by train mean that it’s not imperative to have a car here.
