Aviemore, Scotland

A one-time farming village, Aviemore transformed into a resort town in the 1960’s in response to the sudden growth in popularity of skiing. Today it remains popular as a ski destination but has added many other strings to its bow. Hikers and naturalists have been coming here for even longer than the skiers and now share the forest parks and open hillsides with those maniacal mountain bikers too.

The town sports a wide range of accommodation from basic bed and breakfast and self catering apartments through to five star resort complexes and luxury lodges. At peak times of the year the town’s population expands considerably, culminating in a vibrant atmosphere.

As well as the wild outdoor activities the town also provides good indoor sporting facilities including a swimming pool plus a fun park and go-karts. Easily accessible by air, rail and road Aviemore is suitable for weekend visits as well as longer trips. The nearest airport Inverness is about thirty minutes away by car.
