Alagna, Italy

Alagna is a quiet outpost on the Monterosa Ski domain with a reputation as one of the worlds premiere freeride destinations. It’s also an excellent location for summer mountain sports too with hiking and climbing being the main attractions. If your mantra is action and adventure followed by a good nights sleep then Alagna could be the resort for you.

The star of Alagnas’ show is undoubtedly the Monte Rosa Massif which provides the venue for the bulk of outdoor action. Straddling the Swiss Italian border this giant of a mountain stretches up to an altitude of 4634 metres. In winter it sucks in heli skiers and ski mountaineers while in summer it provides the setting for many popular hiking and climbing tours.

The village itself is best described as small, quiet and quaint which for some simply means perfectly formed. It is served by a handful of good hotels, apartments, restaurants and bars and as the holiday brochures would say the nightlife is fairly low key. Not a bad thing if you come to the mountains in search of peace and quiet.
