Scotland, Skiing & Snowboarding

Lift served skiing has been a feature in Scotland since 1956 when the first ski lift was installed on Meall a’ Buiridh in the White Corries to the east of Glencoe. Since then the Scottish ski industry has expanded to incorporate five mountain resorts in total. The ski areas are small in comparison to major European resorts like Les Trois Vallees (Three Valley’s) or Paradiski. However, they are of an adequate size and provide enough variety to keep skiers and snowboarders entertained for two to four days at a time. Each ski hill is relatively close to the next so it’s reasonably easy (if you have transport) to flit between them on a daily basis. For longer stays it’s worth considering visiting more than one resort. But, if it’s just a flying weekend break then spending your entire time in one would be fine.

When conditions are good – which they are frequently – Scotland is a suitable destination for short ski trips and on powder days skiing in Scotland is as much fun as anywhere.
