Italy, Cycling & Mountain Biking

From the coastal paths, citrus and olive groves and turquoise seas around the island of Sicily to the lusciously green alpine pastures at the feet of towering limestone Dolomites and everything in between, Italy offers cyclists a tremendously diverse range of landscapes through which to travel. Each of the country’s regions has much to offer whether you’re looking for a relatively effortless jaunt or more of a challenge.

Cycle touring in Italy for the most takes part on cycle paths, quiet country lanes and back roads with some rougher trails being utilised from time to time. These are usually necessary to avoid a busy road or gain access to somewhere of scenic beauty or something of historic interest.

Since Italy is literally covered in mountains it’s not surprising that in almost every region mountain bikers can find something to whet their appetites. The islands of Sicily and Sardinia both offer a wide variety of trails many of which have a distinctly coastal theme. While in the Alpine regions in the north of mainland Italy mountain bikers find themselves spoiled for choice. Again the Dolomites particularly around Selva and down towards Lake Garda prove enticing venues as each can offer great riding with truly spellbinding scenery.
