Ski resorts 'leading latest property trend'

Snow sport enthusiasts looking for a property abroad are apparently leading a trend in which more and more people are shunning summer destinations like Spain and Cyprus in favour of France, Italy, Austria and Canada.

According to the latest HiFX Global Property Hotspots report, prices are relatively high in well-established resorts such as Meribel, Courchevel and Chamonix, although skiers and snowboarders should have no problem finding a chalet to rent.

But adventure sports fans who want to make a purchase are being advised to do so off-season as prices are an average of five to ten per cent cheaper.

"The French Alps are still top for Brits seeking a place in the snow with France accounting for 26 per cent of all enquiries due to its close proximity and cheap airlines," commented Mark Bodega, director of HiFX.

Smaller Alpine villages that have recently been connected to large ski areas by ski lifts are recommended by HiFX.

According to Alpine Property Investments, a one-bedroom apartment in the Swiss Alps can be bought for £175,000.
