Lukas Bauer from the Czech Republic has once again proved he is unbeatable when it comes to classic-style World Cup cross-country skiing.

Bauer now leads with 428 points ahead of Germany's Rene Sommerfeldt, after winning the interval start races over a 15 kilometre course in Lahti on Sunday.

He finished 20.6 seconds ahead of Sommerfeldt, while Sergey Cherepanov, of Kazakhstan, finished 26.5 seconds behind Bauer.

It was Bauer's fifth victory this season and his seventh podium place. His highest previous overall finish was fifth in 2003.

This latest win gives him 1,196 points with four races remaining this season.

On the women's side, Finland's Virpi Kuitunen won the ten kilometre cross-country event, which was her fourth win this season.

She beat Valentina Shevchenko, from Ukraine, into second place by 4.7 seconds. Germany's Katrin Zeller rounded out the women's podium with her first-ever top-three finish.
