Kayaking in Florida

By  Unsigned,   Wednesday, 19 March 2008

Kayak races will be taking place in Florida next month, as part of the Charlotte Harbor Kayak & Wildlife Festival.

Guided kayak tours and free kayak demonstrations also make up part of the event, which will be attracting visitors from around the world on April 12th.

Port Charlotte Beach Park hosts the show, which has now been running for six years and draws in around 3,000 people every year.

Kayak races of different lengths will be contested, with competitors challenging themselves over 2.5, five and nine-mile courses.

In addition to the water-based fun, those attending the festival can be entertained by a catch-and-release fishing tournament and free nature-based seminars. They can also eat the wide selection of food available and listening to the music provided.

Charlotte Harbour and the Gulf Islands is "Florida's premier eco-tourism destination" as it is "off the beaten path and away from the crowds", according to charlotteharbortravel.com.
