Briton to kayak around "beautiful" Bahrain

A British teacher is aiming to do something he has "always wanted to do" - kayak around Bahrain.

Talking to the Gulf Daily News, former resident of the island Mark Evans spoke about how "beautiful" the country is and explained how he is kayaking around it for a number of reasons.

"I want to raise the profile of the importance of the sea as a resource especially in a time where there's a lot of land reclamation," said Mr Evans, who teaches high-school children geography.

He also indicated that by talking part in such an activity, he may encourage local youths to get involved in watersports and become more aware of the world around them.

The General Organisation for Youth and Sports and Axa Insurance will both be backing the kayaker on his adventure - which starts on April 10th.

In other kayaking news last week, New Zealand's Erin Taylor booked a place in her country's Olympic kayaking team for the Beijing Games.
