Travellers encouraged to visit Krakow

Krakow in Poland has been described as "lovely" and "a very good place" to visit during wintertime.

Travel group Fregata Travel has indicated that the Polish city - which has skiing destinations close by - has been growing in popularity during the last few years.

Tim Campbell, manager of the company, said: "I would say that these sorts of places are very set up for the cold and if you don't mind feeling a bit nippy, it's a very good place to go in the winter months."

He added that there are possibilities of getting a "bargain" break, meaning visitors could get "better value for money" than if they travelled elsewhere.

According to Krakow-Info.com, skiing is a popular pursuit in and around Krakow during winter and the nearest slope is 15 km south of the city. Some 100 km south of Krakow are the Tatra Mountains, providing adventure sports enthusiasts with some challenging terrain to climb.

Earlier this month, the Post Office stated that some of the emerging city-break destinations in eastern Europe could benefit from the global credit crunch as more tourists turn their attention to cheaper holidays.
